ECB Enhances Eurosystem Repo Facility to Support Global Euro Liquidity
The European Central Bank has launched an expanded repo facility for non-euro area central banks to ensure smooth monetary policy transmission.

The European Central Bank has expanded the Eurosystem repo facility for central banks, known as EUREP, to provide backstop liquidity to non-euro area institutions. This enhanced framework now offers standing access for most central banks to obtain euro funding against high-quality collateral, with individual line limits set at 50 billion euros.
By facilitating access to liquidity and encouraging the use of euro-denominated securities, the facility aims to stabilize financial markets and reduce potential spillovers from international shocks. Traders monitoring euro funding conditions and sovereign bond spreads should note that these measures, operational as of the fourth quarter of 2026, are intended to support the integration and functioning of the euro area debt market.
