ECB President Lagarde Highlights Economic Resilience Amidst Persistent Inflationary Risks
Christine Lagarde notes resilient growth despite an energy shock while maintaining a measured monetary policy stance.

President Christine Lagarde noted that the euro area economy has remained resilient throughout the first half of 2026 despite significant global headwinds and energy price volatility. While projections suggest growth will reach 0.9% this year, rising to 1.5% by 2028, inflation remains a major concern with headline figures reaching 3.8% in September due to higher energy costs.
The Governing Council continues to rely on a three-part reaction function based on inflation assessments, core dynamics, and policy transmission strength to set future interest rates. Following recent 25 basis point hikes, the central bank maintains that a measured policy response is appropriate to control inflation without ignoring the restrictive impact of currently tightening financing conditions.
