ECB Vice-President Vujčić Advocates for Simplifying European Banking Regulatory Frameworks
Boris Vujčić outlines proposals to streamline EU banking regulations and capital buffers to improve industry efficiency while maintaining financial system resilience.

The European Central Bank is pursuing measures to simplify the regulatory and reporting frameworks for European banks, including a restructuring of capital buffers and the leverage ratio. The proposal aims to merge existing capital buffers into two categories—releasable and non-releasable—and establish a more proportional, simplified regime for smaller institutions.
These regulatory adjustments are intended to enhance competitiveness by reducing compliance burdens rather than lowering capital requirements. Traders monitoring the euro should note that the ECB remains committed to maintaining high capital levels to ensure long-term sector stability and economic growth, rejecting calls for weaker prudential standards.
