Prudential Regulation Authority proposes automatic updates for 128 regulatory thresholds
The PRA plans to link 128 banking and insurance regulatory thresholds to nominal UK GDP growth starting in 2031 to reduce compliance burdens.

The Bank of England's regulatory arm intends to automate the adjustment of 128 thresholds across the banking, insurance, and credit union sectors. These limits, which govern reporting requirements and operational rules, would adjust every five years based on nominal UK GDP to account for economic growth and inflation.
For market participants, these proposals aim to provide greater long-term predictability for financial institutions regarding their capital and reporting obligations. By replacing ad-hoc manual updates with a systematic indexation process, the regulator seeks to lower compliance costs and remove barriers to growth for firms.
